Hawa Mahal, Jaipur

The Hawa Mahal is synonymous with Jaipur and the historical Rajasthan monuments. The Hawa Mahal, Jaipur is a five stories, pyramidal structure full of small windows, semi-octagonal in shape, 953 in number, and covered with latticed screens. It is the perfect example of delicate design and supremely solid construction.

The Hawa Mahal, Jaipur is a part of the City Palace complex and was built by Maharajah Sawai Pratap Singh. Seen from the outside, the Hawa Mahal, Jaipur looks like a delicate honeycomb of windows and screens. As can be imagined this gives the rooms an air condition like effect and it truly is an architectural marvel.

Designed in 1799 by Lal Chand Ustad, the palace boasts of motif's and borders that have been painted with quick lime. This pyramidal structure is a mixture of pink and red stones, and its elaborately carved balconies are a sight to behold.
