A stampede at a ‘satsang’ in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday resulted in the tragic deaths of at least 116 people, including women and children. The state government has initiated an investigation into the incident and deployed three ministers to oversee relief efforts on-site. Inspector General Shalabh Mathur of Aligarh confirmed the death toll and stated, “An FIR will be filed against the satsang organizers due to the overcrowding that exceeded permitted limits. A comprehensive inquiry has been initiated.” The ‘satsang’ was convened by the Manav Mangal Milan Sadbhavna Samagam Committee for Narayan Sakar Hari, also known as Sakar Vishwa Hari or Bhole Baba. Authorities are actively searching for Bhole Baba, who remains missing following the stampede.
