Around 90 Indian pilgrims lost their lives during this year’s hajj pilgrimage in Mecca, which has been severely impacted by a heatwave. Saudi Arabia has not officially disclosed the number of fatalities, although it reported over 2,700 cases of heat exhaustion on June 19 alone. According to an AFP report, the total death toll has reached 645, with the majority of deaths attributed to the heatwave. Disturbing videos have surfaced showing bodies unattended on the streets, underscoring the gravity of the situation. Authorities are actively assisting affected families and managing the crisis. Social media platforms like Facebook have been inundated with posts featuring images of missing individuals and requests for information.

This year, approximately 1.8 million people from around the world participated in the pilgrimage.
