1. We do not grow when things are easy, we grow when we face challenges. What prompted you to start this incredible journey?

I have completed my graduation from the Bhopal School of Social Sciences. Ever since I was a child, I had this inborn inclination towards music, especially singing. I have not received any sort of professional training in singing, but I have performed on many occasions. It is because of my singing that my mentor suggested that I take part in the BSSS Rhythm in 2016. After that, I was selected for a radio show on All India Radio, Bhopal, Yuvvani. Apart from the radio show, I have also performed as an anchor on many events. So, in 2018, I had the idea of making an Instagram account, Sanya Ka Radio, where I would post songs sung by me.

2. Now that we know that you are such a talented singer, how did the idea of beginning your radio show struck your mind?

Well, I still remember that day very clearly. It was November 4, 2018, and the display of my phone stopped working. I told my parents that my phone broke and I need a new one. They said they cannot buy me a new phone. So I was feeling a little gloomy and went live at around 11:00 PM that night. Since the display of my phone would not work, I was not able to show my face. It was totally unexpected, but still, a number of people joined my live show. I had complete support from my family. I have no proper training as a Radio Jockey but after completing my graduation, I applied for a job at several radio stations but was rejected from every place. 3. What skills does one require to become an RJ?

For someone like me, who has not received professional training for being a Radio Jockey, all I can advise people who dream of becoming an RJ is, always be real. You should be real and so does your content. There is no point in copying others. If you want to succeed and leave an impact on others, you have to be original. I was also awarded the Bhopal Ratna, for starting something new and innovative.

4. Everything new, especially things that people cannot fathom, is met with criticism from people. Did you face something similar and how did you deal with it?

It is extremely true. All the big personalities that have become famous, from actors to singers, all have faced criticism at some level. “Koi criticize karta hai so it means that you are succeeding”, she further adds. I was criticized by my very close friends and relatives. Even when I go live, there are people who comment abusive words and demeaning comments. But just like every other thing, the show must go on.
People thought nobody will listen to the radio in the current times. But I know that the Radio business will never go out of service. During COVID, people loved to listen to radios and people will never stop listening to radios. A.R. Rahman sir and Jonita Gandhi have been my inspiration. I have always loved connecting to people and I have been able to do that with my shows.

5. What are your future plans?

I love doing what I do. I have the full support of my parents and I know that this is what I want to continue as a career. We have different shows every day. We try different radio jockeys every Monday. Celebrities like Rajat Chauhan, Shardul Pandit, and Pooja Misra have been guests on my show. It is because of such people, who motivate me. Every night from 11 PM to 11:45 PM, I connect with people and listen to them. To all those people who listen to me or are be reading this, I would just say, “Agar kuch socha hai toh do it”. Always be punctual and respect your work.
