The young enthusiastic debutant Ishan Kishan has left everyone in awe after he played an extraordinary inning against the home team Sri Lanka in Colombia. The birthday boy scored a whopping 59 runs off 42 balls and completing his half-century in just 33 balls, giving a perfect return gift to his teammates! Before the match, this youngster told the whole dressing room that he would be hitting a six on the first ball and did not fail to keep his word! It takes astonishing courage and commitment to register a maximum on the first ball of your ODI. In the post-match press interview, he said that wherever the first ball of the game will be, he already knew that he would be hitting a six. It was a great batting pitch, the bowler was under pressure, and it was his birthday! So with some birthday confidence, he struck the bat to hit one of the best ODI debut innings! The 42 ball knock was like a return gift of his birthday which he wanted to give to his teammates and the team India. Ishan already has a record of hitting a fifty on his debut T20I match, and now he has carved his name in ODIs.
He is the second-fastest Indian batsman to score a half-century on ODI debut after his Mumbai Indians teammate Krunal Pandya. Ishan’s staggering score of 59 runs is the 9th best score in ODI debut against Sri Lanka. The youngster managed to break a lot more records and seems to break many more in the future as well. Ishan did not forget to mention the role of the veteran Rahul Dravid, Team India’s head coach for the Sri Lanka tour. It was pre decided that Ishan was going to bat at number 3 and it did not come as a surprise that he played so well. He had all the practice he needed with the new ball as coach Rahul Dravid made sure he plays according to the conditions. It was a rough season he had for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2021, where he scored a total of 73 runs in 5 matches. Rahul Dravid’s good decision to keep Ishan in the team as he rose back up like a phoenix and will probably continue to maintain this consistency!
