Mightiest mountains, icy and sparkling rivers like the Indus, Shyok and Zanskar, stunning flora and fauna and a lot more things this place can offer. Leh, a district in Ladakh is the capital of the biggest union territory in India. This place attracts a lot of film producers because of its exceptional sights. Along with being a place with heavenly natural beauty, it surprisingly defies the laws of physics!

Magnetic hill- A place defying physics

There is a place here, that denies to follow gravity! Around 30kms away from Leh on the Leh-Kargil-Srinagar highway, lies the magical ‘Magnetic Hill’. Why the name? It is because in this place, along with gravity pulling things downwards, it attracts things towards the hill which is uphill. People have been going to this mysterious place and trying out the wonder for themselves. They turn their cars or bikes on neutral and the uncanny force pulls them uphill! The cars have recorded to go up to a speed of 20km/hr just with the force from the hills. It has become a major tourist attraction. Other than this occult activity, the place is extremely gorgeous. There shouldn’t be any mention about the climate as the place is located at a height of 14,000 feet above the sea level. The river Sindhu gushes from the east side of the hill making the place even more aesthetic.

Theories, beliefs and interpretations.

People from all over the world have travelled here to experience the phenomena and look for an explanation or deduce their own theory about it. There are a number of theories, some being scientific and some being just blind beliefs. The local people there believe that there is a divine force inside those hills which is a pathway to heaven! It was also said that the place has a very high magnetic pull which attracts the vehicles towards itself, but it’s not just the vehicles that the force pulls. People have kept different objects like plastic bottles and cans and they seem to get attracted as well. So what exactly is the deal of this place? After some research the real reason behind this phenomenon came to be known. The road where the vehicles experience this is surely an uphill route, but if we look into a wider perspective, the topography of the place is actually downhill. That is why any object tends to move in that direction weather it is a metal, plastic or anything else. The place is surely known as a magnetic hill, but the main work here is done by gravity!
